Joel and Jil Sheldon Endowment

Joel and Jil Sheldon pictured in 2005 inside Vroman’s Bookstore, a family business Joel has stewarded since the 1980s.

Joel and Jil Sheldon met during their senior year at Occidental College – on the quad in the rain – and later they were married. She majored in psychology and education and became a teacher. Joel was into sports. “Back then, athletics, particularly football, influenced every decision I made,” says Joel who was a Small College All-American.

Today, Jil and Joel proudly share two children who also graduated from Occidental. Although still interested in Oxy football, Joel’s attention is now focused on property development and the family business, Vroman’s Bookstore.  He has dedicated much of his life to community affairs, including serving on the Occidental College Board of Trustees. Joel, a former Board member of PCF, currently serves on the Foundation’s Advisory Council. As a community leader and businessman, he feels strongly about giving back and he does so both with the Vroman’s Gives Back program and through his personal donations of time and financial resources.

This endowment was established as part of Pasadena Community Foundation’s 60th anniversary celebration and supports PCF’s grantmaking programs in the Pasadena area.

THE POWER OF ENDOWMENT
Endowments are the cornerstone of PCF’s mission to build hometown legacies. The corpus of each endowed fund is invested with PCF’s portfolio for long-term growth. Each year, the endowments generate the funds that support PCF’s local grantmaking, which enriches the arts community, protects our environment, provides health care and critical social services, and bolsters public education in Pasadena. Endowments are permanent legacies for our community; these funds will continue to grow and provide philanthropic support forever. Learn more about creating an endowment at PCF.
