Joel and Jil Sheldon met during their senior year at Occidental College – on the quad in the rain – and later they were married. She majored in psychology and education and became a teacher. Joel was into sports. “Back then, athletics, particularly football, influenced every decision I made,” says Joel who was a Small College All-American.
Today, Jil and Joel proudly share two children who also graduated from Occidental. Although still interested in Oxy football, Joel’s attention is now focused on property development and the family business, Vroman’s Bookstore. He is also very active in community affairs, including serving on the Occidental College Board of Trustees. Joel, a former Board member of PCF, currently serves on the Foundation’s Advisory Council. As a community leader and businessman, he feels strongly about giving back and he does so both with the Vroman’s Gives Back program and through his personal donations of time and financial resources.
This endowment was established as part of Pasadena Community Foundation’s 60th anniversary celebration and benefits Pasadena by supporting PCF’s local grant making.
