Pasadena Community Foundation Funds

Phillip and Lois Matthews Endowment for Health

Phillip and Lois Matthews created their field of interest endowment in 2012, in honor of Pasadena Community Foundation’s upcoming 60th anniversary. They chose to designate its support to PCF’s grantmaking in the area of health.

Lois began her long involvement with the Huntington Hospital by organizing hospital/community events.  Seeking ways to help finance the hospital’s Senior Care Network, Lois stepped forward to organize and direct what has become the financially successful resale and consignment shop, the Huntington Collection.  In 1987, she joined the Huntington Hospital’s Board of Directors and in 1992, she became a lifetime Trustee for the five-member Collis P. and Howard Huntington Memorial Hospital Trust. She served as chairperson for the board from 2003 to 2008, during a time when the Hospital was undergoing a major renovation.  She found time to attend every hospital committee meeting held during those years while also serving as president of the Pasadena Guild of Children’s Hospital (2001-2003).

Lois and her husband, Phillip Dean Matthews, have two grown children and several grandchildren.

THE POWER OF ENDOWMENT
Endowments are the cornerstone of PCF’s mission to build hometown legacies. The corpus of each endowed fund is invested with PCF’s portfolio for long-term growth. Each year, the endowments generate the funds that support PCF’s local grantmaking, which enriches the arts community, protects our environment, provides health care and critical social services, and bolsters public education in Pasadena. Endowments are permanent legacies for our community; these funds will continue to grow and provide philanthropic support forever. Learn more about creating an endowment at PCF.
