Pasadena Community Foundation Funds

The Cheryl Buntich Scholarship Fund

The Cheryl Buntich Scholarship Fund is available to eighth grade students graduating from St. Bede’s School who are applying to St. Francis High School or Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. One boy and one girl are chosen based on both academic merit and financial need.

The St. Bede community supported the Buntich Family during Cheryl’s battle with cancer and other health complications. Families cooked dinners, arranged rides and play dates for the family’s three children, and most of all, consistently showed up to help while Cheryl was sick. Cheryl died on March 26th, 2013, and the support the Buntich family received from friends and strangers alike inspired the scholarship fund. The Buntich family wanted to repay the compassion and kindness shown to them by providing an opportunity for a dedicated, hardworking student to further their Catholic education as either a St. Francis Golden Knight or to join the TOLOGS (To Our Lady Of Great Success) up on the hill at Flintridge Sacred Heart.

Cheryl Buntich was a woman of quiet and determined strength, as well as being gracious and considerate. These traits were evident to those who loved and knew her well, but just as obvious to those she encountered only briefly. It is our hope that the students who receive this scholarship demonstrate the same values of integrity, character, and kindness.
