Johnson-Ebner-Holmlund Family Endowed Scholarship

The family of Margaret Johnson and her beloved late husband Arnold are supporting the Swim With Mike Physically Challenged Athletes Scholarship Fund by establishing the Johnson-Ebner-Holmlund Family Endowed Scholarship to benefit the scholarship recipients of Swim With Mike.

The family has been involved with Swim With Mike since 2010 when Margaret’s grandson Daryl Holmlund, a competitive long distance runner in high school and college, became a scholarship recipient following a 2004 car accident that resulted in spinal cord injury and paralysis. Daryl used the scholarship to complete a master’s degree and teaching credential from the University of Southern California and has been teaching – and supporting Swim With Mike – since then.

The Johnson-Ebner-Holmlund Family includes Arnold and Margaret’s four children and their spouses, 12 grandchildren and their spouses, and 16 great-grandchildren (so far!).

Arnold Johnson was an Army doctor and psychiatrist, serving during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, while Margaret held down the fort at home, raising their four children and volunteering in the community. Having lived through the Great Depression and led by their Christian faith, Arnold and Margaret always practiced financial care and frugality, so that they might be generous givers, and their example has inspired three generations of the family. Margaret previously endowed a scholarship for students with disabilities at North Park University in Chicago, her and Arnold’s alma mater.

The family hopes that the Johnson-Ebner-Holmlund Family Endowed Scholarship will continue to help young people overcome their personal tragedies through education for years to come.
