HEAR Center Upgrades Critical Tech with Grant from PCF

HEAR Center is the only nonprofit audiological and speech therapy center in the San Gabriel Valley and the primary service provider for audiology services in the Pasadena area. Unlike the for-profit hearing service corporations in our area, they provide state-of-the-art hearing (and speech) services for anyone who needs it, regardless of their ability to pay.

Speech-Language Pathologist Nikki Wu works with children at HEAR Center.

In 2016, PCF gave HEAR Center a $10,342 Capital Grant to replace their impedance audiometer, a critical piece of audiology equipment essential in efforts to effectively diagnose and treat hearing impairments in children and seniors. The new Tympstar Pro Audiometer (pictured above) replaces one that is more than 20 years old. It was outdated technologically, and unable to be integrated into their newly upgraded computers and Electronic Medical Record System. The new equipment will help with all of that, making it possible for HEAR Center to achieve efficient, paperless, and automated client management.

“We’re grateful to Pasadena Community Foundation for helping us acquire this state of the art technology with the new audiometer,” said HEAR Center Executive Director Ellen Simon. “Because of this gift, HEAR Center was able to more efficiently conduct 747 evaluations and identify possible hearing problems. On behalf of HEAR Center’s many clients we thank you!”
