Charitable Gift Annuities

A Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) supports your favorite nonprofit organization and provides a lifetime of income too! PCF is licensed to offer charitable gift annuities to benefit both PCF and other local nonprofit organizations, including the Pasadena Humane Society, A Noise Within, Five Acres, and many more.

“A CGA is an arrangement between a donor and a nonprofit organization in which the donor receives a regular payment for life based on the value of assets transferred to the organization. After the donor’s death, the assets are retained by the organization.”

Alan & Sheila Lamson

In 2019, PCF donors Sheila and Alan Lamson made a gift of real estate to PCF to fund a CGA. Read more about how they replaced monthly rental income from their property with a CGA payment, and received a generous tax deduction for their gift.

Is a CGA for You?

If you prefer to continue to receive income from your charitable asset but would also like to make a major planned gift to your favorite nonprofit organization while you are still living, a CGA may be the right charitable vehicle for you. For example:

  • If the donor has funds in CDs or other accounts that are earning little to no return (or a property that is not generating sufficient income);
  • If the donor is looking for a secure source of income (PCF’s strong financial position and reinsurance ensures that the donor will be paid on time and in full);
  • If the donor has appreciated stock that would incur a capital gains tax liability if liquidated;
  • Possibly tax savings on Social Security benefits (the annuity is a tax-free return of principal, not income);
  • Other potential tax advantages (please speak with your tax advisor).

With a minimum gift of $20,000* you will receive a fixed annual annuity payment AND a tax deduction depending on your age (must be 65 or older):

Age          Rate                  Age         Rate

 65           5.1%                     80           7.3%

 70           5.6%                     85           8.3%

 75           6.2%                     90+        9.5%

*Minimum gift and age eligibility require evaluation of impact to charitable beneficiary. PCF will advise once application is made.

To receive a quote or begin the application process, please download the application here, complete it, and return via email or mail to Liz Algermissen at ealgermissen@pasadenacf.org or 301 E. Colorado Blvd., Suite 810, Pasadena, CA 91101.

You are not committed until you meet with PCF and write a check.
