Partnership for Success! helps selected Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) students realize their full academic and personal potential in a setting that fosters community, collaboration, and confidence. Their summer enrichment program is designed to help students realize their academic goals and learn the skills needed for a brighter future. This dynamic program spans nine consecutive summers. Selected by their school principals, 430 Pasadena public school students immerse themselves in a well-balanced curriculum including math, science, technology, and language arts. Students also receive academic tutoring and college counseling. Students begin in 5th grade and continue the program through 12th grade.
A $20,000 Education Program Grant from PCF in 2016 enabled Partnership for Success! to create a new program: a pre-college boot camp of sorts. “With the support of the Pasadena Community Foundation, Partnership for Success! launched our pre-college bridge program,” said PFS! Executive Director, Gillian Bush. (The first class of the new program are pictured above.) “Graduates of the PFS! were invited back to spend their post senior year summer as students in the program, taking classes on college writing, human development, and the nuts and bolts of time management and study skills needed to navigate the new environment of freshman year. As most of our graduates are first-generation college students, this extra support and preparation is extremely valuable in making their transition a smooth and successful one.”
The grant also helped strengthen the existing free Saturday tutoring sessions for 8th through 12th graders. The tutoring program is optional and voluntary, designed for students who are seeking to improve their grades or are seeking extra guidance to help them achieve their true potential in the classroom.
