It’s National Estate Planning Awareness Week, which offers a great reminder about why community foundations like Pasadena Community Foundation (PCF) can be an exceptional partner for your clients who have charitable intent. We can help donors define and preserve their core values through a philanthropic legacy.
Pasadena Community Foundation is a unique estate planning partner
We offer flexible ways to give. Do you know about PCF’s unique Memorandum of Charitable Intent tool? The “MOCI” allows donors to specify charitable causes they care about locally or anywhere in the U.S. while preserving the flexibility to make changes without incurring the cost of updating their entire estate plan. PCF is named as a charitable beneficiary and the MOCI provides direction to PCF to carry out the donors’ intentions.
We create hometown legacies. Marvel Kirby passed away at age 90 in 2021 and created a unique legacy for Pasadena. In her bequest to PCF, Marvel chose to honor six dear friends who, like her, embodied a spirit of service and generosity. Through her legacy, each of them have a named endowment that supports the causes closest to their hearts. Read about two of friends she honored through her bequest: John Matthiessen and Rary Simmons.
We believe in the power of endowment. In addition to naming specific charities, the MOCI allows donors an option to endow their passion for a particular cause. Funds generated from endowments are continuously reinvested in the community through PCF’s robust grantmaking. We always honor a donor’s intent and support the causes they specify. Read about the incredible impact of Cornelia Eaton and how her bequest established our Senior Grants Program.
We know the local landscape. PCF has a deep and broad understanding of the nonprofit landscape – the organizations in operation, their histories, and their strengths. We can help direct their charitable contributions to organizations or causes that align with their values and have the most impact locally.
We provide tax advantages. Because PCF is a qualified public charity, we can help donors reduce their estate taxes and provide other tax benefits.
At PCF, we have seen firsthand how thoughtful estate planning can generate meaningful, long-term benefits for our community. The Pasadena Community Foundation (PCF) wants to express our appreciation for the many estate planning attorneys with whom we have partnered to ensure their clients’ charitable intentions are carried out.
We encourage you to reach out to PCF with your questions about estate planning – we would love to work with you! Jennifer DeVoll, (626) 796-2097, ext. 101 or email
