ALTADENA, CA, September 2 — The Altadena Builds Back Foundation (ABBF) announces a $350,000 grant to Greenline Housing Foundation to help transform vacant, fire-impacted lots into affordable homes for first-time buyers in West Altadena. Greenline is a community-based nonprofit that has been committed to the Altadena recovery effort from day one. In February 2025, with grant support from the Pasadena Community Foundation (PCF), they became the first local organization to launch an emergency land-banking initiative to purchase fire-impacted lots. Since then, PCF and ABBF have continued to invest in Greenline’s work to preserve affordable homeownership and community integrity, through rebuilding and interim housing assistance.
The grant will enable Greenline to give families displaced by the fires a pathway to homeownership in their community by supporting the construction of affordable homes in Altadena. This funding will help cover predevelopment costs associated with new construction, such as architectural design plans and environmental cleanup.
“We want to make sure the people who have lived in Altadena for generations are able to stay,” said Jennifer DeVoll, Executive Director of the Altadena Builds Back Foundation. “Our funding will open doors for displaced families to buy an affordable place to live so they can remain in a community that has been their home.”
“This grant from ABBF allows us to move quickly on lots we’ve worked hard to secure,” said Jasmin Shupper, Founder and CEO of Greenline Housing Foundation. “Every affordable home we build is a chance for a family to return to and remain in West Altadena and build equity through homeownership.”
This investment reflects PCF’s and ABBF’s commitment to supporting community-led recovery efforts that keep Altadena affordable and accessible for residents. As recovery from the Eaton Fire continues, investments like this will play a critical role in expanding affordable homeownership opportunities while preserving the character, diversity, and resilience that have defined Altadena for decades.
