OVERVIEW

About the Fund

The Altadena Library Foundation Endowment is a designated endowment of the Pasadena Community Foundation, benefiting programming, facility support, and outreach efforts of the Altadena Library District. The Altadena Library is integral to the strength of Altadena community — inspiring curiosity, connecting neighbors, and celebrating its unique spirit.

The Altadena Library Foundation was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 2009 to focus on developing a stronger sense of philanthropy among our neighbors. The Foundation has been raising funds for the Altadena Library District for many years to strengthen and support library services for the residents of Altadena, part of unincorporated Los Angeles County. Funds have been used to help supplement the programming and structural facility needs at the Main Branch and the Bob Lucas Memorial Branch of the library district, as well as community outreach efforts. As with all vibrant institutions, responding to ever-changing community needs requires sufficient resources. To that end, the Altadena Library Foundation has established a permanent endowment to ensure the library will meet the needs of the community well beyond our lifetimes.

Ensuring Future Success of Altadena Libraries

Bridget Brewster, President of the Altadena Library Foundation, credits community support and the 2020 passage of Measure Z for allowing the Foundation to create the new endowment.

“Altadena Library Foundation has been fortunate to be financially stable because of generous community support and commitment to our library. We endeavor to be good stewards of our funds and believe one of the best actions we can take is to ensure a portion of our donors’ gifts is placed in trust in perpetuity.”

In November of 2020, the voters of Altadena passed Measure Z, which approved bonding to address all the capital needs required for renovation of both libraries. “This fortuitous action has allowed Altadena Library Foundation to look beyond immediately pressing needs and focus on ensuring the future success and support of the libraries. An endowment with a trusted institution such as PCF is the perfect way to move forward. This endowment will offer opportunities for donors to create a personal legacy that will serve beyond their lifetime.”
