Arlyne W. Husted Endowment

The Arlyne W. Husted Endowment supports Pasadena Community Foundation’s grantmaking by rotating annually among five focus areas: children and youth, animal welfare, arts, education, and historic preservation. Created through her estate, the fund reflects Mrs. Husted’s lifelong generosity and commitment to causes close to her heart.

OVERVIEW

About the Fund

The Arlyne W. Husted Endowment is a multi-interest endowment that will support one of five areas of interest each year by rotation: Children and Youth, Care and Protection of Animals, Promotion of the Arts, Support for Education, and Historic Preservation in the Pasadena area.

Arlyne White Husted, the daughter of Harry and Edith White, was born in Omaha, Nebraska and grew up in Beverly Hills. She attended the Brillantmont Ecole in Switzerland and continued her studies at UCLA. In 1957, she married George William Husted, a fellow Angeleno and professional baseball player. The Husteds welcomed daughter Ann Elizabeth several years later.

In the mid-1970s, George and Arlyne moved to San Marino, where they lived for the rest of their lives. Preceded in death by her husband and her daughter, Mrs. Husted died in 2019 at the age of 91.

A Planned Gift from Her Estate

Mrs. Husted left instructions in her trust to create a private foundation with the residue of her estate, but the amount remaining was not enough to accomplish her wishes effectively. Her attorney reached out to PCF about finding an efficient alternative to a private foundation that would still carry out Mrs. Husted’s goals.

She subsequently received court approval to work with the Foundation to create an endowment benefiting the five causes designated in Mrs. Husted’s trust. Mrs. Husted is remembered her for her sharp mind, loyal attachments, and as a good, kind, and generous friend. A tribute to her giving spirit, Mrs. Husted designated that a significant portion of her estate be dedicated to charitable purposes, specifically to support the five causes dear to her heart.
