Linda & Elliott Mazur Foundation

The Linda & Elliott Mazur Foundation supports Pasadena Community Foundation’s local grantmaking and benefits local organizations working to sustain and uplift our community.

OVERVIEW

About the Fund

Linda Mazur and her late husband, Elliott, built a life defined by curiosity, generosity, and a deep love for the Pasadena community. Linda grew up in Burbank and later earned a history degree from UCLA. Elliott was born and raised in Detroit, studied philosophy at the University of Michigan, and eventually made his way west—drawn, as Linda says, to sunshine and possibility.

Both forged unconventional professional paths. Graduating during the second wave of the women’s movement, Linda knew she didn’t want a traditional “women’s career,” so she became an entrepreneur, building a series of independent sales businesses. At 55, she made a joyful career shift, teaching ESL to immigrant adults through Los Angeles’s Adult Education Program. “I loved it,” she says. “It’s never too late to change careers.” Elliott, meanwhile, happily spent his life as a housepainter, relishing the chance to work outdoors while pursuing passions that ranged from birding and rare cacti to astronomy, physics, and volunteering as a docent in the Huntington’s Desert Garden.

The couple settled in Pasadena in the early 1990s and immediately immersed themselves in local life. They loved the city’s blend of cultural richness and small‑town familiarity—where attending a concert or lecture often meant running into friends. For Linda, community has always meant surrounding herself with people who share her values, whether through volunteering, philanthropy, or simply showing up for local events.

Linda first connected with Pasadena Community Foundation at a nonprofit event, where she discovered that PCF supported many of the same organizations she cared about. “All under one umbrella,” she recalls. “We shared the same core values.”

In 2021, she and Elliott created an unrestricted endowment at PCF to ensure their giving would continue strengthening the community they loved. After the Eaton Fire, Linda became even more grateful for that choice—unrestricted funds allowed PCF to direct support where it was needed most. Today, she continues their shared legacy, proud to invest in a foundation that reflects the breadth of their interests and the heart of their commitment to Pasadena.

“Elliott and I had so many interests, and PCF supports them all. When we created our endowment, we wanted our giving to keep growing and making a difference long into the future. We could have restricted it to a single cause, but I’m so glad we didn’t—after the Eaton Fire, our fund could go exactly where it was needed most. I’ve decided I truly love the unrestricted designation.”
