FUND PROFILE

Pasadena Child Health Foundation

The Pasadena Child Health Foundation Fund supports grants that advance children’s health and well-being in the Greater Pasadena area, continuing a legacy of early intervention and community-based care since 1951.

OVERVIEW

About the Fund

The Pasadena Child Health Foundation (PCHF) believes that all children should be healthy and able to develop to their full potential. In support of that, PCHF provides funding to reduce disparities that adversely impact the health of children residing in the Pasadena Unified School District attendance area.

PCHF invests in prevention and early intervention strategies and activities that incorporate the principles of collaboration, leveraging existing resources, and expanding capabilities to improve the health and well-being of Pasadena area children in four priority areas: Healthy Early Childhood Development, Family and Community Connections and Healthy Weight. Grants are awarded annually in the spring.

History of PCHF

The Pasadena Child Health Foundation (PCHF) was established in 1951. It evolved from earlier organizations founded to provide health services for children. Chronologically these were: the 1920 Pasadena Dispensary; 1922 Pasadena Preventorium; 1945 Pasadena Health School; and, 1951 Pasadena Child Health Foundation. In 1951 the PCHF incorporated as a 501(c)(3) private foundation, with the purpose of supporting projects pertaining to the health and welfare of children.

As PCHF focused its attention on children’s health issues, it attracted additional donations and increased its assets. Over its history, PCHF has made grants to support children’s health to a wide range of organizations.

In 2016, the Board of PCHF voted to become a fund of the Pasadena Community Foundation. Though dissolved as a private foundation, the grant program of PCHF continues unchanged. Now a Committee-Advised Fund at PCF, PCHF and its board remain committed to stay current with the needs of the community it serves.
