Yes, Virginia Grantee Spotlight and Event Reminder

Spotlight: Door of Hope

The Yes, Virginia Fund was established in 1994 to help sustain and nurture the community of non-profits that support under-served children in Pasadena. Specifically, the Fund gives out grants to organizations that provide toys, books, and specials experiences to children and families in need during the holiday season. One of the 2014 recipients was Door of Hope, which helps homeless families in transition.

Door of Hope’s Christmas Family Reunion is a special event for families to be a part of a festive holiday party during their homeless experience. The party also invites back families that had been through the program in the past, enabling them to reconnect with staff and families they knew in the program. Door of Hope used the funds to support the purchase of gifts and gift cards for older children and teens, also provides gifts to current and recent graduate parents to wrap and give to their own children – an aspect of empowerment in Door of Hope’s program.
